Marya Stark is a vocalist, composer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist.
She is a discoverer of archetypes, a storyteller, an oracle bard, and muse of creation.
Drawing from influences as diverse as Classical, Broadway, Indie-Pop, Storytelling and Folk, Marya crafts a sound that is wholly original. As a multi-instrumentalist and multi-media enchantress, she creates the way she breathes; without choice or hesitation. She is a carrier of myth, mystery, and medicine songs with which she embarks to create a ceremony of the human condition, taking her audience on lucid journey’s through the caverns of the soul. An award-winning songwriter and soaring soprano, she is a mentor in the art of voice and archetypal embodiment. She is mused by kindness, nuance, synchronicity and soul remembrance, and is a life-long chaser waterfalls.

ALBUM REVIEW:

Marya Stark‘s latest studio album, ‘Lineage,’ is a deep meditation on timeless ancient wisdom to salve our current times. Instrumentals range from traditional world fusion to futuristic electronic beats, setting the backdrop for Stark’s soaring, full soprano, as her lyrics explore a hopeful world of reverence, healing, and divine feminine awakening.

One of the most lyrically powerful tracks, “Breaking the Silence,” reads as a celebratory anthem and call to action for the #metoo movement, and the wave of women around the world who are standing up, speaking out, and reclaiming their power. The heartfelt passion in her message strikes a chord, and shines through.

“2 years in the making, these songs are steeped in the medicine of women’s wombs. These are anthems for the rising voices of the women breaking the silence. They are chants for the circles coming together for intergenerational healing and womb clearing.
They are my stories of healing, and my sisters’ stories, and my mothers’ mothers’ mothers. These songs are meant to be learned and shared freely. It has been an honor to sing them with hundreds of folks already, and I am so excited to see where they will go from here.” – Marya Stark

“Women Who Run With The Wolves” pays homage to the seminal feminist book by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and does a beautiful job weaving contemporary folk with indigenous and experimental sounds. The minimal, stripped-down aesthetic of this track is a theme throughout the album, and serves to emphasize each note and each lyric, with great effect.

There is profound wisdom and knowledge to be found in the lyrics of this new record, while the overall vibe is uplifting, relaxing, and inspiring. She manages to strike a beautiful balance, delivering potent transmissions without coming off as too preachy, or taking too much focus away from the music. I’ll be listening to this in the morning as the sun rises, as a soundtrack for yoga and meditation, and to unwind in the evenings as the sun goes down. Worth a listen several times through, ‘Lineage’ will stay in rotation for a long time to come.
