This possibility of hope in the face of clear and present danger to the biosphere is an opportunity not to be squandered in prohibition on the one hand, or in uninhibited silliness on the other. In my kindest moments I see humankind vis à vis psychedelics and their uses as very much in the monkeys-discovering-fire phase.
The most practical application of psychedelics is as a tool for examining differentiated states of consciousness, and ultimately for investigating the basis of consciousness itself. This was the promise of psychedelics that first created such tremendous interest within the scientific community before research was effectively banned in the early 1970’s.
The misnamed Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) recently produced a “fact sheet” entitled, Everything You Need to Know About CBD, that seeks to justify the continued prohibition of cannabis by misinforming the public about cannabidiol and THC.
Beneath a mask of purported reason runs a deep well of irrational rhetoric which does nothing to serve the search for a greater understanding of existence.
