The affordable Eco House

Submitted by Thecoyote23 on Tue, 05/08/2007 - 22:02.
I am currently designing an off the grid eco house which will be affordable (if not more so) that your average small house. I will post tidbits and pics when new steps are completed. My present issue is building an economical, yet effective grey water recycling system. If anyone has any experience or suggesstions, feel free to message me.

don't over glaze, angle your windows or use low e glass. be sure to figure out your Heating Degree Days and balance your Solar Gain with your Heat Loss/ R values. When balancing your heat loss consider changing your needs with thermal mass near your windows and don't forget you will need more heat during the night than day. Good luck with the grey water, I have no idea. But I thought I would share a bit of what I know.

Hey coyote23! I'm doin' the same thing right now, very exciting. Over the past 12 months My wife and I have filled a whole graphpaper notebook full of self designed houseplans to suit our site. It's fun to go back and see the different ideas and plans evolve.

We've settled on a plan and are in the digging the footers phase. My advice is plan, plan, plan and plan some more. My business is also building houses.  We are doing some of grid things including grey water, rainwater collection, passive heating and cooling.  If you have any questions I'd love to help if I can. Maybe compare notes?? We are building a small adobe home.
