Horizons: Perspectives on Psychedelics
Over the weekend of October 14-16, 2012, "Horizons: Perspectives on Psychedelics" — the longest-running
psychedelics conference in the United States — will convene in New York
City for its sixth year. In anticipation of this reunion of intellects,
I sat down for a conversation with Neal Goldsmith, the conference's
emcee and speaker curator.
Two Psychedelic Conferences a World Apart
Over the course of two consecutive weekends, I flew between
Entheogenesis Australis (EGA), Australia's premier gathering of
psychedelic pioneers, and Cartographie Psychedelica, a California-based
conference celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Multidisciplinary
Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). These are some of my
observations.
A Declaration of Psychedelic Studies
At
this inertial juncture in history, I propose the inauguration of Psychedelic
Studies as an interdisciplinary academic field. I would like to do this by
tapping Queer Studies as a justificatory precedent.
