Soul as a Dimension of Experience

Soul describes a dimension of everyday experience. It is not eternally unchanging, but
rather learning, growing, and maturing. If we respect her, soul can guide us
and teach us, and she thrives with our respect. It may be that we don't have individual souls at
all, but rather that there is only one, undivided.

Honesty as a Soul-Making Activity

Honesty is not just refraining from deliberate lies, it's the positive
act of living in accordance with the deepest truth you can discover.  In order to become honest we need to seek
truth. We have a faculty of recognizing truth when we meet it
because we partake of the soul.

Our Double Nature

Overcoming duality is a critical step in achieving wholeness, but the mysteries of light and dark are complex and often elusive. The vision of Nature and the vision of Eros belong to the Affirmative Way. The vision of God belongs to the Negative Way.

Soul and Spirit

The Greeks regarded sexual passion as a kind of madness —
possession by Eros — which deprived you of all dignity and made you betray your
friends. Nowadays we are particularly prone to such madness because we have
lost the religious depth which would contain and define the soul's desire for
something beyond the human. 

Soul and Daimon

The
daimon overturns the conventional view held by psychotherapy: that what happens
early in life determines what happens later. We are not the
products of our history; we are a-historical creatures for whom events in our childhood and
later development are mirrors in which we catch glimpses of our primordial
image.
