URANUS Square PLUTO: Upheaval and Innovation
Between 2011 and 2015, all of the astrological transits and the coinciding world events should be viewed in the light of the catalytic and revolutionary merger of two archetypal behemoths–Uranus and Pluto, who will be exactly squaring an unprecedented seven times in four years, and in 2011 come within one degree of an exact square. The square is an aspect of friction, tension, and dynamic change.
In a sense, the first 5 years of the 2010s, each individual and all aspects of culture and social structure are being pummeled, remolded, and transfigured by the powerful and relentless Uranus-Pluto force.
Uranus was the first planet discovered with a telescope. Its discovery occurred in 1781, amidst the revolutionary surges for both French and U.S. Independence. Industrialization also began around this time, signifying the next level of technological advancement. In 2011, Uranus begins a new phase of its evolution in our collective psyche, as it moves from the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces, to the first sign Aries. Simultaneously, Uranus begins its intense and cathartic square to Pluto, which will last through 2015.
Uranus is the great awakener, the paradigm shifter, the revolutionary genius — a rebellious Prometheus stealing fire from the gods to liberate humanity. Pluto is Lord of the Underworld, the harbinger of cathartic and profound evolutionary shift, through relentless transformation, regeneration, death, and rebirth.
The two in the dynamic square aspect promise a totalizing effect that catalyzes a radical shapeshift in culture, stripping us of what is no longer essential and what has outlived its usefulness. Consistent themes of Uranus-Pluto as expressed in Richard Tarnas' thorough and fascinating research into planetary cycles, Cosmos and Psyche
-Widespread radical social and political change
-Often destructive upheaval
-Massive empowerment of revolutionary and rebellious impulse
-Intensified artistic and intellectual creativity
-Extremely rapid technological advancement
-An underlying spirit of restless experiment
-Drive for innovation
-Urge for freedom resulting in a revolt against oppression
-Embrace of radical political philosophies
-Intensified collective will to bring forth a new world
-Massive demographic shifts
-Fervent, often violent intensity
-Excitement of moving rapidly toward new horizons
It will be up to the artists, healers, and lightworkers to vibrate at a frequency so high as to magnetize others in our collective ascension to a more enlightened species. Every thought, vision, and action is a step towards this. Every gathering, every intimate encounter, every conversation is an opportunity to answer the evolutionary call.
URANUS in ARIES: Call to Freedom
Uranus steps boldly into Aries beginning April of 2011 — the warrior, freedom-fighter, pioneer, and competitive reactionary — during its square to Pluto in Capricorn. Whatever slumber some of us have been in, fascinated with the distractions of our gizmos, keeping up with our online profiles, or drowning in the dramas of the Piscean seas, Uranus in Aries will now demand that we manifest those Piscean dreams in the world, as he asserts a forceful call to action and a thrust towards greater freedom.
Last summer's volcano over iceland coupled with the hottest summer on record throughout the earth demonstrate the ferocious heat of Uranus in Aries, as Uranus slid into the youthful spark of the zodiac all last summer.
Uranus in Aries forges into territory never thought possible before. The risk-taker dares us to not only think, but ACT outside of the box. Keep talking about that sustainable community or retreat center you want to build, or class you want to teach or education you're dying to know? It's time to experiment, as Aries learns by doing. The acceleration of the coming decade cannot be overestimated. Our ability to remain adaptable is a major test and new knowledge is streaming in. As we chase the flame of our evolution, we may find ourselves taking two steps forward and one step back, and we have to learn to accept and adjust.
With Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn, the sudden explosion of changes in our lives demands that we at last embrace the lessons of impermanence. To honor impermanence is to give each moment its gratitude.
We repeatedly hear the phrase, "We are the ones we have been waiting for." But, it is Gandhi's phrase "Be the change you want to see in the world," which then motivates us to access the avatar — the chosen one — within. To "be the change" is not a passive state of being, but an active and passionate ‘doing.'
Gandhi's salt march occurred during Uranus transit in Aries in 1930, when it last squared Pluto. Martin Luther King Jr. was born during this same transit, just two years before the salt march. King led his own protest march during the following connection between Uranus and Pluto throughout the decade of the 60's. One quote
Both King and Gandhi preached and practiced non-violent resistance, influenced by another Uranus in Aries and Uranus-Pluto figure: Henry David Thoreau, whose On Civil Disobedience stated: "That government is best which governs not at all and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. Government is at best but an expedient; but most governments are usually, and all governments are sometimes, inexpedient."
The inexpediency and irrelevancy of governments today has ignited the civil unrest erupting all over the world as citizens recognize their governments as puppets to corporations who only think of people as sources of money. Just as in the 60's, the fire is sparked most by University students. 2010 riots on the U.C. campus because of tuition hikes demonstrate the extreme discontent. And in December 2010, students protesting tuition costs in London shouted "Off with his head!!," as they assaulted Prince Charles' car. One wonders how willing high school and college aged youth will be to attend schools that continue to not honor their individuality, their generation's needs, or the freedom to learn without being enslaved to debt. Many may decide to learn through the internet and mentoring or apprenticeship programs and spend the majority of their time cultivating their creativity.
We should ask how can we take the militant fervor we feel within and cultivate courage in the face of our personal and collective fears. As MLK Jr. stated, "Militancy means persistence, to be demanding, to be insistent…"
Resource Based Economy
People are now insisting on a new system altogether, inspired by visions such as the resource-based economy, as described in Zeitgeist Addendum and the new Zeitgeist film released this January 25th, Moving Forward. The Zeitgeist movement (zeitgeistmovie.com) is a worldwide revolution occurring with planetary activists everywhere, supporting many ideas espoused by the Venus Project, especially the implementation of an economy that moves beyond money and its capitalist, consumerist model of competition and scarcity.
While this movement has been active for a few years, Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn is the archetypal juice necessary to fire up the world.
An interesting surprise occurred while I was researching the Venus Project to share with my readers, something which hints at a major theme emerging in the coming years of the Uranus-Pluto square — net neutrality and infowars. When I typed in The Venus Project and Resource Based Economy Google reported this to be an "Attack page," which had supposedly been putting viruses onto some computers. This appeared very suspicious to me specifically because of the very revolutionary content espoused on the Venus Project's website. Since Google is a multibillion dollar company who indeed like money and have lobbied their fair share of politicians in congress, could it be that Google created this warning as a way to detract visitors from the powerful ideas and information on the Venus Project's website?
Imagine if Karl Marx and Frederich Engels lived today, and they wrote their Communist Manifesto and put it on the internet. And say a lot of people were starting to appreciate the ideals set forth. Whoever had a vested interested in retaining capitalist ideals, even a search engine like Google, may take the initiative to try and shut down the portal into that information. In the emerging Aquarian age, information is the weapon.
The Zeitgeist movement and the Venus Project have a texture similar to that of the Communist Manifesto, which was written while Uranus was in Aries, squaring Pluto, and while Neptune was in Pisces. This is the position of these planets in the 2010's, so we would expect this movement to gain great momentum around the world in the coming years, likely threatening the corporations and governments of the world.
There is much much more to be said about this fascinating, exciting, and overwhelming cycle we are all entering with Uranus in Aries and Uranus square Pluto. I will continue to be writing about it throughout the year, and apply it to the context of the inflowing Aquarian Age.
I wanted to leave you with some further research and a poem to help us as we increasingly become more aware of our responsibilities as multidimensional beings.
Earthships as evolutionary sustainable buildings which contain:
-Thermal/Solar Heating & Cooling
-Solar & Wind Electricity
-Contained Sewage Treatment
-Building with Natural & Recycled Materials
-Water Harvesting
-Food Production

Light-Hearted
I confess:
I am a multidimensional vibration.
But How do I contain that?
I am being and becoming
And I am lost and found in the between
All-Ways
But I don't know how to reach the other parts of me,
stretched like melted plastic taffy through wormholes of possibility.
I am the thirteenth rose, de-thorned, but pricked by the dozen other red mirrors.
The roses were white, but stained the blood of my zodiacal reflection.
Archetypes battle in me, and I seek my courage in conjuring miracles: the hymns necessary to sustain peace between the gods of war.
All gods
are gods of war.
And I've been caught stealing
Thunder
I've been caught thieving
Fire
The eagle pecks at my flesh
The swan serenades my soul beyond death
The vulture carries the carrion of my heart across the Milky river Styx
I am the orphan in exile, and I am the hybrid trying to hide in stars
And my centaur's arrow points back, like an oroborous tail,
Straight into my mouth
I am both Prometheus and the Wounded Healer who spares his Flame from its famine
I am the Artist-Shaman who sacrifices his heart upon the altar
So that humanity may feast upon dawn for but one more day
I am the Sacred Face of the Sun
Reaching to kiss you with my Solar Flare lips
I know my embrace is deadly
But the Light will ascend you
And the Heat will resurrect you
Just stare at me and remember
You are not separate
Climb into the Light
Return the Many to the One
and Fold the distance
Into Wholeness
