Help the Shipibos who lost their shops and inventory to a fire raise money to rebuild their businesses and futures.
In Iquitos, Peru, on the first block of Nauta, at the corner of the Malicon, the Shipibo’s had their huts where they sell their arts and crafts, mostly incredibly woven textiles with their intricate ‘right step’ pattern, representing the magical icaros or maps.
Two nights ago, there was a short circuit and all their huts burned to the ground along with all their hard work, arts and crafts. Unfortunately, the fire also spread to the church behind them and gutted it completely. They are busy cleaning up the charred remains but sadly, the Shipibos will not, so far, be allowed to rebuild there. Some have set up on the sidewalk in from of the Hotel Real Iquitos on the Malecon. Imagine your store or business burning to the ground with all of the contents, with no insurance or possibility for recovery!!
This fundraiser has been set up to help these fine people need their families and build a future. Thank you for your support! Make this your first act of kindness for 2015!
