Keyframe-Entertainment had the chance to talk with Kelly about her experiences that led to the creation of Lucid Planet and Lucid Planet Radio.
What inspired the show?
The show was inspired by my desire to create a space for positive, uplifting transformational media–across psychology, news, wellness, health, visionary art culture and festivals. We all want to see humanity heal itself, and to see the condition of our planet improve, but this change starts within the individual. That’s why the goal of Lucid Planet Radio is to inspire people to transform their worlds from within.
Which speakers are you looking forward to interviewing?
I have such an interesting and diverse array of guests lined up over the next few months… Visionary Artist Android Jones in June, Janet Hardy, author of The Ethical Slut, in August, Dr. Amit Goswami the Quantum Activist in the fall and anthropologist Graham Hancock in November are some of my highlights.
Tell us about the meaning of the term “Lucid Planet.”
Lucid Planet is a reference to how our world is waking up and evolving. We are becoming clearer, more connected and more luminous as we begin to see a revolution in consciousness sweeping the planet. In a way unprecedented in our human memories, we are participating together in conscious co-creation to heal ourselves and heal our planet.
Where do you see The Lucid Planet in 2 years?
Broadly, I see Lucid Planet Media evolving from the website and radio show into documentary films, book projects, and other avenues for high-quality inspirational content. I also see the emergence of a community gathering space (both virtual and in-person) where we can connect and support each other as we navigate the global shifts in consciousness. My ultimate goal right now is for Lucid Planet Media to host a small, grassroots transformational festival next summer in Colorado. My partner and I are currently scouting land to make this dream a reality.
What goals are you trying to achieve?
Like most of us, I just want to see harmony, balance and peace on this planet in our lifetimes, and Lucid Planet is my small contribution to this huge puzzle that we are all putting together. My goal is to help people empower themselves through education, critical thinking and mind expansion. I am a psychologist and I was a college professor for a long time, and so I hope that I can continue to touch people’s lives, to inspire them, and to encourage them to work through the stress of daily lives and find their authentic self-expression.
What do you hope to achieve with the radio show?
My goal for the radio show is to empower people with tools to become the greatest version of themselves, and to help educate and inspire change in others. I taught the psychology of sex for seven years, and one of my biggest goals was to help people love and accept their sexuality and their bodies. I hope to continue to pass on this same kind of message of acceptance to my listeners.
What do you want your listeners to know or come away with?
I want my listeners to feel good about themselves and about reality, and feel that they can actually make a difference in this world by putting the work into themselves. Whether we are talking about health and wellness, consciousness, visionary culture, psychology or sex, my listeners can learn skills that can help them improve their lives and help them cope with everything that is going on in the world.
What is the reach of Transformation Talk Radio?
The show reaches thousands of people, because it is syndicated on AM radio on the East and West coasts, along with streaming online across the world on I Heart Radio, ITunes and SoundCloud. My show is aired weekly on WBLQ 1230 AM in New York, CT and RI, as well as KKNW 1150 AM in Seattle, and you can listen to the archived podcasts at www.LucidPlanetRadio.com
What brought about your Transformation?
I have been transforming constantly, and I expect this process to persist for my entire life, just as it does for all of us. My personal transformation has been the most rapid during the past four years, where I discovered both meditation (going within to find my voice) and the transformational festival scene (going without to find my community). Those experiences really helped me find my voice and begin to uncover my authentic identity and self-expression.
Perhaps the biggest part of my transformation came two years ago, when I was near death in the hospital with severe anemia. I needed an immediate transfusion of four pints of blood (for perspective, my body only has about eight or nine pints total!). The doctors told my partner Jimmy that there was a 1 in 4 chance that my body would reject the blood and I would die that evening. During the following 12 hours, I entered an oddly peaceful transcendental state where I clearly saw the paths laid out before me: I could choose death, or I could choose life. I asked the universe (and specifically Krishna, who I found myself praying to despite any Hindu affiliation) if it was time to leave, and I clearly received a response that I had not yet completed my mission, and that I needed to stay here in this body. While I wasn’t exactly clear about the mission, I have always been a nurturer and knew I needed to help people, whether as a psychologist or otherwise. As soon as I committed in my heart to staying to do the work laid out before me, my body began to accept the blood transfusion and my condition improved.
Within a year, I had left my long-term job as a professor and was called into the beautiful energetic vortex of Colorado to start a new life. I began writing messages of hope and healing from the heart and within a few months my work had been picked up by websites with a reach of millions, like The Mind Unleashed and Mind Body Green. Shortly after, I launched Lucid Planet and Lucid Planet Radio, as a creative outlet for myself, but also as a resource to help inspire people to transform the world from within. There has been so much love and support for this work, and I am so grateful to be doing this.
