Americans drink a lot of beer — 6.3 gallons just last year, to be exact. Fifty percent of that was in cans, and most of that six-pack plastic ended up polluting the ocean and killing marine life.
Saltwater Brewery, a small craft beer brand in Florida, and New York-based ad agency We Believers, have developed an innovative alternative to the deadly plastic: edible six pack rings. They say that these rings, made of barley and wheat remnants of the brewing process, are biodegradable, edible, and compostable. According to the video above, if most breweries implement the technology, the manufacturing cost would drop and become competitive.
