1.  Evolver Presents:  Re-Visioning Capitalism

Some say it’s time for American civilization to die.   Come
and join us for an electric night when Howard Bloom will tell Daniel
Pinchbeck why American civilization has just begun to live – and how it
will be saved and upgraded by – guess who? – YOU.  “Machine
-gun raconteur and scientist, ex PR magnate to the stars, and author of
“The Genius of the Beast: A Radical Re-Vision of Capitalism”, Howard
Bloom is a speaker of incendiary mercurial intellect” (Village Voice).  Emceed by Daniel Pinchbeck, author and founder of Reality Sandwich and Evolver and who disagrees with Bloom about Everything.  Forget sparks!  Minds will fly.  Bloom’s first roaring rant in NYC for 4 years.  Don’t miss it!  Stay for discussion, mingling with great food and bar.  Special presentation to join Time Interchange New York (TINY.  www.timeinterchange.com)  a complementary currency system that is re-visioning capitalism right here on our own doorstep.

Winter Wonderland at Rebel NYC presented by  Rebirth

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.

“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”

“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.

“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Witness as Rebirth takes Manhattan.  New York is steeped in the confusion of myth that has us all feeling a bit insane.  But not to despair, instead let us celebrate, for sweet relief has found it’s way into our fair city.  There is a ReBirth.  Don
the mask of fantasy where art, music, and dance fuse with spirit to
create a wonderland where we may find momentary refuge along the way on
our journey “back home — to ourselves.” We, the innocent few dream of
illicit pleasure, childlike reverie, dancing ‘til dawn as we dream
ourselves back to the eyes that once inspired us…and perhaps we may
find ‘the others’  in the process.  In
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Alice represents our youthful struggle
to survive in the confusing world of adults. To understand our adult
world, Alice has to overcome the open-mindedness that is characteristic
for children.   Here is your chance to peel back the
layers your adult self has created, and return to your innocence, your
child-like open-mindedness, and perhaps your reckless cravings for
exploration into other worlds and other minds.  The Red
Queen shook her head, “You may call it ‘nonsense’ if you like,” she
said, “but I’ve heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as
sensible as a dictionary!”

Join Alice in her trippy winter wonderland
adventures into live painting, cage dancing, psychedelic visuals,
trippy light shows, Tarot Readings, live music, dj’s, drinks, and black
light visual sensations.  Try out your right brain and
dress “fantasy”, black light friendly attire will make us love you even
more…Winter Wonderland “brought to you by Rebirth” Experience a Winter
Wonderland “Go ask Alice,.. I think she’ll know.”Live Musicians:
Spineless Thug, ATM, Bioluminescence, The Living Painting Group.  Live
DJ’s: iMu.uRi, Subsince, Promethea Pink, Mikey Likes It playing all
varieties of Dubstep, Drum and Bass, IDM, Grime, Jungle, Bass)  Winter Deco by Nephil Nine.  Psychedelic Visual Projections by Kaliptus.   In-Joy!

The Money Fix Film Screening and Filmmaker Q&A

Join us for a screening of the acclaimed
feature-length documentary The Money Fix which exposes the assumptions
behind the current money system and offers a look at existing
alternatives. The screening will be followed by a panel and Q&A
with director Alan Rosenblith, Jen Cohen of Seven Stones Leadership and
The Global Sufficiency Network, and Jordan Schachter of Time
Interchange New York (TINY). Alan and Jen will be joining us via Skype
and Jordan will moderate the discussion. We hope you can join us as we
surface and examine hidden assumptions about the function and use of
money and learn practical tools for empowering our communities. Money
is at the intersection of nearly every aspect of modern life. Most of
us take the monetary system for granted, but it has a profound and
largely misunderstood influence on our lives. The Money Fix  is a feature-length documentary exploring our society’s relationship with the almighty dollar.  The
Money Fix examines economic patterning in both the human and the
natural worlds, and through this lens we learn how we can empower
ourselves by redesigning the lifeblood of the economy at the community
level. The film documents three types of alternative money systems, all
of which help solve economic problems for the communities in which they
operate.

Souldish in which he explores questions such as: What is money? Where
does it come from? How does the design of our monetary system affect
our lives?

The Shaman’s Way – Healing the Light Body

With medical anthropologist, Alberto Villoldo, PhD.  Alberto
Villoldo with shamansShamans understand that we all have a luminous
energy field surrounding the body that holds a record of all our
traumas and reflects the state of our health and psyche. The work of a
shaman is to heal patients by bringing balance to this field. In this
experiential workshop, Alberto Villoldo, who has studied and practiced
the shamanic traditions of the Andes and Amazon for more than 30 years,
will introduce us to the core practices of shamanic energy medicine,
giving us powerful tools we can use to attain exceptional health and
well-being and to positively affect our future evolution. The healing
modalities we will explore will include: the illumination process which
clears imbalances in the energy field before they have a chance to
express as disease in the body; a method for extracting toxic energies
embedded in our energy field; “soul retrieval” work to revisit and undo
the damage of past traumatic events as we recover our essential Self;
and rites of passage, including life and death rites.

Fix – the movie

One week only theatrical run not to be missed.  Synopsis:  Racing
across Los Angeles in one, unwieldy day, documentary filmmakers Bella
and Milo race from Beverly Hills to Watts and places in between to get
Milo’s brother Leo from jail to rehab before 8pm, or Leo goes to prison
for three years.  A story inspired by true events, the
trio documents their trip from a suburban police station in Calabasas
through mansions in Beverly Hills, East LA chop-shops, rural
wastelands, and housing projects in Watts as they attempt to raise the
$5,000 required to get Leo into the rehab clinic.  Along
the way encountering dozens of colorful characters, each with their own
anomalous perspective on Leo’s larger than life personality and style,
and each with their own excuse for why they cannot help out. In the
end, it may take a drug deal to get the necessary funds for rehab.  “This
is a life more vivid than any I’ve ever seen in this town. It’s a movie
more vivid than almost any made in this town. Dirty, sweet and magical,
the movie swirls kaleidoscopically through urban terrain. It has the
hallmarks of a music video — fast motion, jump cuts, dizzying angles —
but isn’t just vainly edgy. It’s meant to be a guerrilla
film-on-the-fly, latticed like the broken windshield of perception. The
movie has a sort of mantra — at least twice, characters offer the
greeting “Each day’s better than the next.” Here is a two-faced piece
of wisdom indeed. Does it mean life is getting ever-better, like it
sounds, or ever-worse, like it says? Is “Fix” a movie about hope or
catastrophe, the best of times or the worst of times? That’s for you to
decide after seeing the movie. Catch it at the Brooklyn Film Festival,
see it at another festival near you, beg your local arthouse to play
it, do what you have to do, but see it. Because you just gotta.”

WAH Center opened, we have been acquiring contemporary works for a
collection. While most of the works in the collection are from
wonderful exhibitions held at the WAH Center, some works in the
collection were not exhibited at the center, but donated by our
generous friends. And while many works are from artists in New York
City, we also have works by artists from across the United States and
abroad. In one or two cases we have acquired work from an artist in
depth, which we can show at special times. And, on particular themes
such as last years, “Paradise Lost,” we have a very good body of art
that can be shown again at special occasions.  We are most
thankful to have received many works donated by generous artists, and
we are especially delighted and honored to have works by some
particularly outstanding artists who are highly respected in the art
world, such as Ilya Bolotowsky, Judy Chicago, Yayoi Kusama, Faith
Ringgold, Jerry Rudquist, Toshiko Takaezu, Ansei and Toshiko Uchima,
Chuyu Uemae, (a member of the Japanese avant-garde “Gutai” group) and
more. For the most part, however, they are working professionals of
high talent some of whom have been already recognized, having wide
exposure in the New York Art World and beyond, and some of whom we feel
will be known in future years. We are following their progress with
great interest.  We hope that you will come to visit Part

Permaculture: Queens Garden Assessment and Analysis

The Bungalow Garden Queens Field Trip to Middle Village/Elmhurst area .

An A and A- assess from here on the potentials.

We are renting a 100×30 lot with a tiny house in
Queens that is available for collaboration in hands-on projects and
teaching. Making soil, growing food, fish and indoor studio space- and
make money. The space aims to be another of the many NYC urban examples
of permanent culture. It’s also available as a eco-uberurban-vaca
rental :). We have 6 fruit trees for pruning if you would like to teach
fruit tree maintenance and health. The old pear tree (in the photo) is
full of fruit yet you can see it needs care.   It’s over lunch time so bring something to eat .. or there is food near by.

Permaculture:  Film Screening of The Battle for Seattle

A viewing of the movie The Battle For Seattle.  Co-hosted by Greg Todd and Alice Lo.  To
get to this address, take the #3 train to Nostrand. Walk down Nostrand
toward the Banco Popular four blocks to Park Place, turn right.  The
format is a potluck, followed by the movie and sharing about your
reactions. Please RSVP and let us know what you plan to bring. While
many of the people present may consider themselves permaculturists,
this event is open to all and we encourage any interested in positive
change to attend. The rationale for showing this move now?  The
pendulum of public/movement attention is perhaps swinging back to the
systemic ills of corporate globalization – and we’re curious if people
are any more ready than they were 10 years ago to see international
trade organizations and trade and finance agreements as a framework for
converging social/ecological injustices and crises. It seemed to us
that there was some mainstream awareness crystallizing around these
issues before 9/11, the War in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq –
despite rampant misinformation about and misinterpretation of
protesters (not in small part due to the mixed messaged and diverse
strategies/tactics used in the ‘movement’). We’re curious to see if
people are now more able or inclined to see whole systems – and
interested to know how a growing awareness of positivist strategies
like permaculture will change how we pick up this thread and run with
it.

Rethink Afghanistan screening, bike & pot luck

From the documentary film’s website:  “Ending
the U.S. military occupation of Afghanistan starts with getting
together with our friends, neighbors and family members and discussing
the costs of this misguided adventure.”  Most people are
confused about what is really going on with the war in Afghanistan. I
found the film very clear and concise, well organized, and proving
information which is strongly in defense of reevaluating our
involvement in Afghanistan, especially against raising the number of
troops at this time.  The hosting space, Splinters and
Logs has a large space and is planning one of their infamous potlucks,
so bring a share if you can. Money donations will be accepted, to go to
help the families of Afghan casualties. We hope to have an American Vet
speak and that you can join us.   There will also be a

“Tribal Solace:  a very ancestral thanks.

Some very special friends of yours want to extend
a very special thanks to you with a secret party the night before
Thanksgiving November 25th.  This is meant for all of you
who wish you could celebrate by dancing around the fire. It’s for
everyone who wants to beat their drums in tribute to the gods. Everyone
longing to be part of the ancient culture, rich with rights and rituals
will find liberation here. Come honor all our tribal ancestors with
this night of thanks.  We all know Thanksgiving is a
holiday to appreciate all the positive aspects of our lives. We also
know it is a celebration in remembrance of the feast the pilgrims had
after their first harvest in the new world. The pilgrims were aided
greatly by the Wampanoag Indians. These people were stripped of almost
everything they had down to their very identity. We want to remember
and give thanks to these people and every other culture decimated by
colonization and westernization. Come in tribute to these misunderstood
“heathen” people. Strap on your wampum, war paint, bone jewelry, beads,
loin clothes or anything that brings out your inner heathen…  This
is a new celebration to remember all that was lost and give thanks to
ALL our tribal ancestors. All your senses will be filled with amazing
art, music and performance in ways comparable to your stomach full of
turkey after thanksgiving gorging. We will have a Thanksgiving dinner,
drink specials, prizes and special performances before 11. This will be
a night to remember and it all starts at 8 and will end very late. The
festivities are going to be a limited engagement so RSVP as soon as you

Filmmaker Keith Arronowitz and Souldish present: Metamorphosis- A Journey of Transformation

Ayahuasca has been used by Shamans and those they
help for hundreds if not thousands of years. Found all over the Amazon,
Ayahuasca and it’s incredible ability to heal has been slowly but
steadily creeping into western consciousness. Metamorphosis is a
documentary that follows several westerners as they undergo five
Ayahuasca ceremonies and experience the gamut of emotions – from utter
fear to outright ecstasy. It also explores the shamans who work with
the medicine as well as all the key elements of an Ayahuasca ceremony.

In addition, tells the story of Hamilton Souther,
who earlier in life had no belief of and in spirit. After having a
spiritual awakening, Hamilton is led to the Amazon where he apprentices
as an Ayahuascero, or person who practices medicine with Ayahuasca.
Hamilton and Maestro Don Alberto (an indigenous master shaman for over
thirty years that practices with Hamilton) take us through the
ceremonies as well as explain the meaning behind them.

As the film progresses, we follow the journey that
the participants take through the plant medicine. The difficulties of
the experience are revealed as well as why each of the participants has
come. Integral elements of the ceremony, such as the icaros (songs sung
in ceremony) and the “purge” are explored further.

Finally, we get to see the transformations people
have undergone, from physical to emotional to spiritual, after having
spent more than a week with Ayahuasca. They reflect on their
experiences and share what they have learned, leaving profoundly
transformed from when they first arrived.

Portraying the Self Workshop w/ Alex & Allyson Grey

Few pictures through the ages are more honest or
experimental than self portraits. Self portraiture can nobly and
expressively convey the deepest feelings with sincerity. The mirror
enables an artist to capture their most personal view of reality. The
degree of comfort with which self portraits capture physical features,
environmental conditions and the artist’s inner world can leave a
faithful record of self scrutiny through the creative process. Facing
ones moods, expressions and shadow, the artist can go beyond likeness
and represent inner turmoil, inner spirit, and higher possibility.  This
workshop will allow the exploration of various mediums, examine the
history of self-portraiture, offer immersion into the soul through
self-revelation, and address philosophically the nature of the self.  Course fee: $250.  Materials list will be provided upon registration.  Workshop
begins Friday evening with arrivals from 5-7, dinner and then lecture.
