Hua Chis devotion to Buddhism is evident on the wooden floor of the The Rongwo Gonchen Gompa Tibetan monastery. For the last 20 years the Buddhist Monk has prayed in the same spot. One can see the soles of his feet ingrained upon the wooden temple floor, appearing almost as a testament to his unswerving devotion to the Buddhist path. In some areas the wood is grooved 1.2 inches deep. The 70 year old monk prays anywhere from 500-1000 times daily. This is a significant reduction from the 3000 daily prayers averaged in younger years.
Buddhist monks lead lives of prayer and contemplation to ensure nirvana in the afterlife. Hau Chis day begins with a few hundred prayers before sunrise, followed by walks around the temple until it is time to pray again.
