Late last week, dozens of UK Facebook profile pages were suddenly deleted due to their supposed violation of the network's terms of agreement.
"London Student Assembly," "Socialist Unity," "Comrade George Orwell," and more activist-themed pages were targets of this mass deletion.
When contacted, Facebook stated that such groups must be developed as a "page" and not a "profile," and gave instructions on a simple conversion process. However, due to the nature of content and the timing of the purge–just before last weekend's much-hyped Royal wedding–some users feel the purge was a preemptive strike to prevent activsts from disrupting the event.
