Derrick May
For the dance-music-minded in New York, underground, smaller-room affairs are often the norm. But on occasion, an epic night out is in order, and this most definitely fits the bill. Detroit techno innovator Derrick May takes to the decks at the ever-hedonistic Pacha, complete with heavy sound system (in capable hands) and amped-up crowd. Derrick May is a friend of mine so of course I am biased.

New York Center for Kripalu Yoga & Health presents: Stoking the Fire: The Transcendental Power of Prana With popular senior Kripalu teacher Dean Hudson
Explore the body’s powerful and subtle energy beyond the brief pranayama excercises in most yoga classes. Spiritual practitioners have long recognized the interdependence between the mind and prana, the vital life force of the body. The ancient yogis exploited this relationship by working directly with prana to cultivate deep meditative states. In this workshop, we will explore this relationship by stoking the pranic fire in the body through an intense synthesis of asana, pranayama, kumbhaka (breath retention) and the bandhas (locks). Learn how this integrated practice can facilitate energetic attunement, raise the store of energy in the body, and lead to transcendent states. Please eat very lightly before class. Dean Hudson, L.I.C.S.W., Director of Pathways to Wholeness, is a psychotherapist and professional-level Kripalu Yoga teacher and mentor. He is on the 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training staffs at both Kripalu Center and Pranakriya Yoga in North Augusta, SC headed by Yoganand Michael Carroll. He brings a deeply meditative and spiritual style of teaching to all his work and leads programs nationwide. He is the creator of the CDs Meditation and the Transformation of Consciousness and TheHealing Power of Relaxation. Make check payable to NY Kripalu Yoga for $60.
