If you’re one of the two gazillion people aiming to launch a meditation practice in this new year, this warning may sound appealing. Take it from me: meditation will change you - but not in the way you may originally have suspected.
When you sit down to meditate you become very inquisitive about your own self. When you are attempting to explain your understanding of Buddhism to people who are unfamiliar with it, you can apply this same level of inquisitiveness.
When I was an undergrad, I would do a lot of things that my peers would do, but it took me a long time to figure out how to walk that fine line between being a meditation practitioner and living the life of a young person.  Recently I was asked to head up Shambhala Publications' Under 35 Project, a digital hub for a new generation of meditators.
We all want to change the world for the better. Even political nut jobs want this; they just want the world to resemble their personal vision of it. When you slow down and ponder how to make the world a bit better, you may come to the same conclusion that so many Buddhist masters have come to: we must base change in compassionate wisdom, not speed and aggression.

We’re now streaming consciousness and medicine music all day, every day. Turn on, tune in, drop out.

Hear from the RS community in our new video series, spotlighting shared experiences and stories with plant medicines, psychedelics, consciousness, dreams, meditation, etc.
