Prepping for a drug test is not something anyone wants to do. Whether it came out of the blue or was known for some time, the possibility of failing can stress anyone out. Online communities and user forums are full of home remedies and recommendations for beating the test as quickly as possible, but are they effective? One of the options people consider is the Certo drug test method.
When there isn’t room for taking risks, it’s good to have all the information necessary to make the most informed decision. Many people tout a Certo detox as an effective way to pass a THC test. But how long does Certo block THC? Is it safe? This post explores the ins and outs of the Certo method and if it can actually help pass a drug test.
What Exactly is Certo?
Certo is a generic name for fruit pectin, made and trademarked by Kraft. SureJell is another Kraft product, which is essentially identical to Certo but with different packaging. Certo is traditionally used to make jam, jelly, and fruit gummies due to its ability to ‘gel’ ingredients together. It’s a natural binder and is derived from sweet fruits like apples, peaches, and berries.
Fruit pectin is a highly soluble digestible fiber, making it a good product for detoxing through feces. A Certo detox is popularly used for detoxing from THC. It’s affordable, easy to use, and readily available.
Does the Certo Drug Test Method Help You Detox?
Certo works like a typical fiber, allowing the body to absorb toxins and eliminate them from the body via feces. It does not trap toxins by coating the lining of the stomach, as some people believe. When mixed with water, Certo turns into a gel, allowing the substance to attract and bind to more water than standard fibers. Most metabolites from drugs leave the body via urine. Still, since Certo leaves the body via feces, the THC metabolites from broken-down cannabis supposedly will not show up in a urinalysis. There is a bit more to it than that, though!
The Certo method affects the solubility of THC metabolites, which are stored in fat cells within the human body, and become water-soluble when they meet with bile after it has been excreted from the liver. Water-solubility of the metabolites is prevented when fruit pectin binds to bile. As a result of this process, the THC metabolites leave the body via feces rather than urine. THC is the first thing that will be released when the body defecates.
Certo is high in carbohydrates and fiber. Consuming it causes an increase in insulin (for healthy adults), signaling to the body to store these calories rather than exert them right away. In addition to burning insulin for energy, the body also burns fat. Fat-soluble toxins end up not only in urine and saliva but also in the bloodstream and other fluids. The insulin spike caused by the Certo pauses the body from burning fat, which means that additional fat-soluble toxins (like THC) will not be released into the body.
Then, the Certo binds to the toxins heading out of the body via feces and urine. Since the high fiber content in Certo soaks up fluids from the intestines and stomach, the toxins are quickly released via feces. Essentially, the Certo method involves absorbing toxins in the body and preventing additional ones from being released for some time. The absorbed toxins are released via feces rather than urine.
Does it work for home detox? It has clearly worked for many people, but it is not guaranteed. As discussed, many variables, from person to person, can interfere with the body’s ability to detox and process toxins. Height, weight, dosage, and frequency of use are only a few common factors that might give people varying results with the Certo detox.
How Do People Use Certo to Pass a Drug Test
There are some variances in suggestions for doing a certo detox, but there seems to be standard practice. Initially, it’s recommended to hydrate as much as possible to help the body flush out toxins naturally.
- On the night before the drug test, mix one packet of Certo (or another brand of fruit pectin) with 32 ounces of a preferred sports drink, like Gatorade. Shake or stir well and drink it all.
- Three to four hours before the drug test, drink a minimum of 32 ounces of water if not more. As much as possible is best.
- One to two hours before the drug test, mix a packet of Certo with another 32 ounces of a preferred sports drink. This time, add five grams of creatine. Mix well and drink it all! Then, take one vitamin B2 and one multivitamin with a full glass of water.
Hypothetically, this should provide a three-hour window where THC will not show up on a urinalysis. Chances decline when deviating from this plan, but if there is less than 24 hours’ notice, aim for one packet of Certo with the 32 ounces of sports drink, plus as much water as possible. Follow with the B2 and multivitamin and more water.
Final Thoughts
The Certo detox is not a surefire method for passing a drug test. It’s untrustworthy for anyone that needs to be 100% confident. When facing a drug test, the best thing to do is to consider a trusted at-home detox remedy.
If there is some advanced notice before a drug test, a detox kit is a great solution. Combining natural supplements with minor dietary modifications makes it possible to safely and effectively flush the body of all chemicals that might appear on a drug test. But if there is no notice or the possibility of a test exists, be sure to have a detox drink handy at all times.
