Brie-Ware the Grilled Cheese Shroomwich
This easy, cheesy sandwich has equal parts of comfort and deliciousness — even if it’s pure wich-craft.
Ingredients:
- Sourdough bread, sliced
- Brie cheese
- Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
- Butter
- Fig jam
- Magic mushrooms, finely ground
How to Make:
Take two slices of bread and butter on both sides. Top a generous spread of brie cheese and a few apple slices on one half. On the other, spread a layer of fig jam and sprinkle some ground up mushroom powder (check our guide on mushroom dosages here) to your liking. You can either stay conservative with this step or go a little wild. Follow your gut and be safe! Assemble the two slices, then grill in a pan or on a griddle until melted and golden brown.
Van Helsing’s Mushroom Risotto
If you want to experiment with mushrooms in a culinary way, you can’t go wrong with risotto. This earthy, garlicky recipe is a great place to start — plus, it’ll keep the vampires away.
Ingredients:
- 5 grams dried psychedelic mushrooms
- ¾ cup of rice
- 1½ cup stock of choice (vegetable, chicken, beef, etc)
- olive oil
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- ½ small red onion, chopped
- ½ cup parmigiano Reggiano cheese, grated
- ⅛ cup tomato paste
- ½ cup fresh basil, chopped
- pinch of black pepper
- pinch of tarragon
- pinch of salt
How to Make:
Warm a ½ cup of your stock in a saucepan until lukewarm, then steep your dried shrooms in it for 30 minutes. From there, remove them from your stock and set aside. Over medium heat, add the rice and the rest of the stock to the shroom-infused stock, and stir regularly for 30 minutes until the rice becomes thick and creamy.
Then, in a skillet, add olive oil to the pan and saute your garlic, basil, red onions and tomato paste, then season with salt, pepper and tarragon. Simmer over low heat for five minutes, then add to your rice. Add in the shrooms, stir until well incorporated and serve hot. You can also include some of your favorite culinary mushrooms into the mix for additional flavor.
Kava Happy Halloween
You won’t find these sweets in the candy fun pack. Fudgey, chocolatey and oh-so-dreamy, these kava-cacao bites are served cold and can leave you with a euphoric buzz.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup melted coconut oil
- ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp kava powder
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
How to Make:
Line a small square dish with parchment paper and set it aside. Then, in a small glass or metal bowl, whisk together all ingredients until homogenized. If your mixture isn’t combining, fill a small saucepan halfway with water and bring it to a boil, then nestle your bowl onto the rim of the saucepan (the water shouldn’t touch the bottom of the bowl). This will gently melt all of your ingredients, making it easier for you to mix together. Once combined, pour into the square dish, garnish with a sprinkle of sea salt or coconut shavings, refrigerate and let chill for an hour.
Kava Ice Scream
This ice cream recipe takes chilling out to a whole new level.
Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk
2 cups half and half
¾ cup sugar
5 egg yolks
2-4 tbsp of kava powder (depending on your desired potency)
How to Make:
In a small saucepan over low heat, stir together the milk, cream and sugar until ingredients dissolve. In a separate bowl, whisk your egg yolks, then slowly pour in the milk mixture while stirring constantly to avoid scrambling the eggs. Return the mixture to the saucepan over medium heat, and stir till it thickens up. Let it cool to room temperature before merging in your kava powder, then add to your ice cream maker and freeze for a sweet, earthy treat. Feel free to add whatever flavors you’d like to the mix!
