Using Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark Powder as Clothing Dye
Making dyes with Mimosa hostilis is quite simple, we just need to follow the following:
Materials needed:
- 200 grams of Mimosa hostilis bark powder.
- 100 milliliters of vinegar
- 300 milliliters of distilled water
- Plastic container or bucket
- Pot
Procedure:
In the plastic container, mix the water with the vinegar.
Add the Mimosa hostilis bark powder to the pot and pour the water and vinegar mixture over it.
Cook over low heat for thirty minutes to one hour.
Strain the mixture and let it cool.
Wash the garment to remove dirt and allow it to better absorb the dye.
Pass the garment through the chosen mordant, which means soaking the piece for thirty to sixty minutes in hot water with enough mordant to cover it.
Remove the garment from the mordant and squeeze it to remove excess moisture.
Place in a container the Mimosa hostilis preparation in enough quantity to cover the piece and let it soak for at least twelve hours.
After this time, heat it over low heat, at a temperature of approximately 80º for one to two hours, depending on the desired color intensity.
After the required time, remove it from the heat and let it cool.
Finally, rinse thoroughly with warm water until the water runs clear, then rinse with cold water and hang in the shade to dry.
Method for the extraction of DMT from Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark
The process of extraction is the technique of bursting the cell walls of plant material to release targeted alkaloids contained inside. There are multiple methods of extraction but the route that we will describe here Is called the straight to base method.
Materials Needed:
- Half Gallon Mason Jar
- 1200 ml Distilled Water
- Kitchen Scale
- 200 Grams Mimosa Hostilis Root Back Powder
- 100 Grams Sodium Hydroxide (Base)
- 100 Grams Non-Iodized Sodium Chloride
- Microwave (must be large enough to place the mason jar in)
- Disposable (solo) Cups
- A Pot that you can place on the stove that the mason jar fits in
- VN&P Naphtha (or any non-polar solvent, pentane, hexane, heptane)
- Stirring tool (Spoon, eggbeater, stir plate)
- Gloves (non-powder latex or nitrile)
- Safety Glasses
- Glass turkey baster
- Oven mitts or thick rubber gloves
- 500 ml Volumetric flask
- Glass container with a sealable lid.
- Freezer or Ice chest with ice
Procedure:
- Before beginning put on gloves and safety glasses (sodium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns as well as skin and eye damage)
- First take the Mason jar and inspect it to make sure the jar has no visible signs of damage.
- Fill the Jar with 1200 ml distilled water.
- With your disposable cups, weigh out 100 grams sodium hydroxide, 100 grams sodium chloride, & 200 grams MHRB powder.
- Fill the stove top pot with enough water to fully submerge the mason jar (place water filled Mason Jar in pot then add water to see how much water is needed to submerge it, then add a little more to cover evaporation then set to heat).
- Pour in the Sodium hydroxide “slowly” while stirring. Sodium hydroxide causes heat to be generated as it dissolves into the water.
- Once the heat has dissipated and the water becomes clear, add in the sodium chloride while stirring.
- Once the salt has dissolved and the water has cleared, add in the MHRB powder slowly (MHRB is a very fine powder that tends to get everywhere so when adding it do it slowly to prevent it from becoming air born).
- Be sure all the MHRB powder is thoroughly mixed into the water. MHRB clumps together in water, if these clumps are not broken up and mixed thoroughly it will greatly diminish yield.
- Once all the MHRB has been added, take the mixture containing mason jar and place it in the microwave (without the lid on), set the power to half strength & the time to 5 minutes then let it run (it will be extremely hot after microwaving, so use oven mitts or large rubber gloves when you take it out).
- During the 5 minute microwave run, fill the volumetric flask with 250mL of your Nonpolar solvent (Naphtha, Pentane, Hexane, Or Heptane).
- Once the microwave is done, take the mason jar out and pour in the solvent, screw the lid on and shake the jar back and forth vigorously.
- Place the mason jar in the stove top pot (make sure the water is hot but not boiling) allow it to sit in there for 5-10 min.
- Once you take the Mason Jar out of the hot pot, you will see 2 visible layers in the mason jar, a yellow layer on top and a black layer on the bottom. Shake vigorously once more, the 2 layers will mix together and become one.
- Let the mason jar sit for as long as it needs to for the 2 layers to separate again.
- While you wait take out your glass turkey baster and glass container with sealable lid.
- Once the layers have separated you will use the glass turkey baster to draw off the yellow layer and poor it all into your glass container (be sure not to take any of the black layer with the yellow, leave the last bit of the yellow layer if it is too difficult to separate).
- Once all the yellow layer is in your new glass container place the sealable lid back on and put it in your freezer or ice chest (placing this in a freezer will cause solvent to contaminate any food inside it or attached fridge, take precautions.)
- Allow container to sit overnight, in the morning you will have a clear solvent and your DMT crystals stuck to the bottom.
- Poor the solvent off into a disposable container and place the container somewhere that it can air dry (this will release solvent into the air which can become nauseating, be sure to place it somewhere no one will be until the material is dry).
- Drying will take about 5-6 hours.
- Once dry scrape the container and collect the material.
- Place it on the scale and weigh your final yield!
