Retrospekt Live: Supporting LA’s Women & LGBTQ+ Artists

Introduction

As lovers of art and creativity, we can all appreciate the importance of supporting our local artist community. One Los Angeles-based creative agency, Retrospekt, is doing just that. Following its successful debut edition last fall, RETROSPEKT is returning to Ground Level Studios in DTLA on Saturday, February 25, and will showcase a lineup of talented LA-based artists. This event is produced independently by female-fronted, experiential marketing/events company Ideaison and is designed to provide artists with a platform to showcase their work and connect with other artists and industry professionals. In this article, we will explore the ways in which Retrospekt is supporting the LA artist community and why this is so important.

Community Engagement

Retrospekt understands the importance of community engagement in building a strong and vibrant artist community. By hosting events like RETROSPEKT, the agency provides local artists with a platform to showcase their work and connect with other artists and industry professionals. On February 25, attendees will have the opportunity to experience performances from a lineup of talented LA-based artists, including soul-house producer Pat Lok, LA-based dance music prodigy Venessa Michaels, alternative R&B singer/songwriter/producer/saxophonist V. Cartier, hard-hitting rapper AUNDREY GUILLAUME, piano-driven house producer KAYA, and DJ/producer Maddy Maia. Additionally, Dahlia’s women circus performers will provide immersive entertainment, and trans artist Bobby Coyote and lesbian multimedia artist Spirit Filled Ink will offer live tattoos.

Artist Development

Retrospekt is committed to helping artists in LA develop their skills and achieve their goals. By working with a roster of talented artists, the agency helps artists grow their careers and reach new audiences. At RETROSPEKT, artists have an opportunity to showcase their work and connect with other artists and industry professionals, which is a crucial aspect of artist development. Retrospekt also offers a range of services to support artist development, including creative direction, artist management, and brand development.

Creative Direction

Retrospekt offers creative direction services to help artists bring their visions to life. By working closely with artists to understand their creative vision, Retrospekt can provide guidance on how to bring that vision to life. At RETROSPEKT, the performers will play on a stage designed by multimedia artist Christy Hayek, alongside immersive entertainment from women circus performers Dahlia’s and live tattoos from trans artist Bobby Coyote and lesbian multimedia artist Spirit Filled Ink. By providing artists with guidance on everything from set design to lighting, Retrospekt helps artists create unforgettable experiences for their audiences.

Founder’s Vision

Of the RETROSPEKT series, founder Lauren Kashuk says, “The tables will never turn, and women will never be able to have the decision-making at major music companies and influence culture if they don’t come together and start to throw shows their own way. It’s different from any other event because I’ve yet to see an event like this. So it’s created for my community, by my community. To me, the series represents hope.”

Conclusion

Retrospekt is a creative agency that is committed to supporting and uplifting the local artist community in LA. By hosting events like RETROSPEKT, working closely with artists to develop their skills and careers, and offering creative direction services, Retrospekt is helping to build a strong and vibrant artist community in LA.
