Shine your fierce light. A Workshop with Velcrow Ripper
“Inspiring and Energizing.”~Leslie Hayman. This fierce workshop with
spiritual activist and award winning filmmaker Velcrow Ripper explores
the power that is released when spirituality is combined with action.
Gandhi called it “Soul Force,” Thich Nhat Hahn calls it “Love in
Action;” for Ripper it is “Fierce Light.” It is the power of the sacred
warrior, heart centered and fierce at the same time. Featuring dynamic

Film: The Water Front (53 Minutes)
Liz Miller’s powerful documentary tells the story of residents of
Highland Park, Michigan and their struggle against the privatization of
the local water supply. Highlighting how a system prone to corruption
affects basic human rights, this moving account foreshadows what could
be in store for municipalities around the world facing their own water
challenges. (www.waterfrontmovie.com) New York State’s water supply
is currently threatened by gas drilling in the vast Marcellus shale
layer which spans three states. Joe Levine, chair of NYH2O, will be on
hand before the screening to discuss this critical local issue and what
we can do to prevent the destruction of our watershed. He will also be
showing an 8 minute clip from Josh Fox’s film “Water Under Attack.”

CoSM Altered State Sculpture Unveiling
CoSM Art Sanctuary in Wappingers Falls NY opens the installation of
Kate Raudenbush’s renown sculpture, “Altered State” with a ceremony,
ribbon cutting, entertainment and refreshments. Visionary artist Kate
Raudenbush originally exhibited this three-story steel gazebo in 2008
at Burning Man, the annual counter-culture arts festival. This
exquisite dome is laser-cut cold rolled steel bearing symbols of Native
American peoples. Altered State is on long-term loan by the artist for
enjoyment and appreciation of visitors to CoSM Art Sanctuary. It
graces a magnificent meadow superbly suited for weddings and other
community celebrations; inquiries invited. Raudenbush’s impressive
sculpture reflects the form and power of the United States Capitol
dome. Upon closer approach, its entire surface is activated by faces,
feathers, hands, eyes, and eagles in the archetypal graphic style of
Pacific Northwest Native American imagery. Entering one of the twenty
eagle doorways is like stepping into a cage of white lace. The
repeating image of the eagle is a symbol sacred to the native people
that first inhabited this land and also to the forefathers of the
United States of America. The eagle is an icon shared by both cultures
representing fierce protection, penetrating insight, the spirit world,
and a quest for the higher self. This monolithic sculpture brings
together opposite ideas: a cage is transformed into a carved temple of
wisdom and transcendence. Referencing both the U.S. Capitol and
America’s native people, Raudenbush creates a sacred space to
contemplate the origins of the American dream and to envision an
Altered State of unity with nature and spirit.
