Archeologists working in Mexico City, in what was the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, are confident they are on the cusp of unearthing the first-ever Aztec royal tomb. After being lost for five centuries, Moctezuma’s Templo Mayor was only discovered after an earthquake revealed fragments of the ruin. The Spanish had deconstructed the temple in 1521 to build a cathedral nearby. Today the site is a promising vault of antiquities.

This year the winner so far seems to be the giant jellyfish design that suddenly appeared in a field in Oxfordshire, England.
